About Service

    Who we are

Service Underwriting was established in 1997 - originally as Service Policies at Lloyd's and latterly operating as an underwriting agency. We act for various insurers carrying out underwriting, processing, claims handling and auditing activities.

Our business is generated through a select number of UK intermediaries, focussing on high-quality and successful brokers. Our business specialises in the high premium sector of the UK private car market as well as small commercial vehicles, taxis and motor trade business.

Our targeted approach extends to our product range where we focus on small niches of business within each product.

The business is based in Tunbridge Wells with a claims office in Hove.

    Associations

The following are organisations who we are either obliged by law to deal with or we choose to have an association with. Each organisation has a link to it's own website should you require more information.

    MIB (Motor Insurers Bureau)

The MIB assist victims of road traffic accidents where the motorist is either uninsured or untraceable.

It is funded by insurers, who are obliged under the Road Traffic Act, to make an annual contribution.

CUE (The Claims and Underwriting Exchange)

The Claims and Underwriting Exchange is a database to which insurers provide details of both household and motor claims. Insurers can also access the database to check claims history of prospective policyholders and to detect fraudulent or multiple claims. The database will shortly be extended to include travel insurance claims.

    Association of British Insurers

The ABI (Association of British Insurers) represents the collective interests of the UK"s insurance industry. The Association speaks out on issues of common interest; helps to inform and participate in debates on public policy issues; and also acts as an advocate for high standards of customer service in the insurance industry.

The Association has around 400 companies in membership. Between them, they provide 94% of domestic insurance services sold in the UK.

The Association was formed in 1985 when a number of existing industry bodies joined together, notably the British Insurance Association, the Life Offices" Association, the Fire Offices Committee and the Accident Offices Association. Previously, the UK insurance industry was represented only by these specialist associations. The creation of the ABI meant that all sectors of the insurance company market could now speak through a single organisation.
